10 Tips for Smooth Traveling

Planning to fly to your honeymoon destination? Keep in mind that even the most seasoned traveler can run into snags along the way. Following are 10tips to keep your traveling trouble-free.

1. Most airlines allow one or two bags to be carried on, as well as a purse, briefcase or laptop. Make sure to always pack a change of clothes in your carry-on baggage, as well as any medications. Pack prescription pills in their original containers

2. If in doubt, pack anything that might be questionable to security personnel (nail clippers, knitting needles, pepper spray, etc.) in your checked luggage.

3. Arrive early. Plan to get to the airport two hours early for a domestic flight, or three hours early for international. This will allow ample time to check in, check your bags, find your gate and even pick up a magazine or two at the gift shop.

4. Remember where you parked. It might sound silly, but you are going to be gone for a few days (I hope!) and might forget where you left the car. Each level of a parking deck tends to look alike, and the last thing you want to do is come home and not be able to find the car.

5. As soon as you’ve checked in and received your boarding pass, find your gate and double-check your departure time. These can change quickly, and if you don’t want to be stranded at the airport, be sure to keep an eye on this crucial information.

6. Speaking of being stranded, did you know that there is a rule that states that if your flight is canceled for any reason other than weather, you have the right to be put on the next available flight to your destination? It’s called Rule 240, and it’s a clause in your ticked that requires the airline to put you either at a higher class of service or on another airline. But, you have to ask.

7. Be sure to bring along some cash for last-minute snacks, tips or any emergency toiletries you might need. You never know if your flight might be delayed, and you’ll want to be prepared.

8. While waiting for your flight, or while you’re in the air, why not get those thank-you notes written? Write them in-flight, and they’ll be ready to mail as soon as you get home. Or, if you’re traveling domestically, mail them at your destination!

9. If you are prone to motion sickness, talk to your doctor prior to your trip about a new patch that is used for motion sickness. Or, bring along some non-drowsy Dramamine - it will keep your stomach stable without making you too tired to enjoy your trip. This could also be helpful if you are planning to take a cruise.

10. Finally, enjoy yourself! Your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime event - take the time to enjoy yourself, your new marriage and your destination!
