On a cold winter's day two porcupines huddled together to stay warm. Feeling one another's quills they moved apart. When the need for warm brought them together, Their quills drove them apart. They were driven back and forth at the mercy of their discomforts, Until they found the distance from one another, That provided both a maximum of comfort and a minimum of pain. May your need for warmth be satisfied and your be spared the stab of your lover's quills.

The best toast I ever heard was by the sister and MOH of a friend. She wrote a poem recounting all the planning troubles her sister had gone through in order to organize the event. It was funny and touching, as it reminded me of so many stories my friend had told me over the past year. It was neat to sort of relive those months, seeing that everything had turned out fine.

Dave and Jenny - two police officers getting married: I've known Dave for about for about 12 years because we lived in the same neighborhood and we went to the same all-boys high school. I think it's really funny how Dave and Jenny met: Back in High School, Dave was always trying to get into after-school plays. He kept telling me "the chicks are cute". (...and keep in mind this was an all-boys high school.)So off we went, me and Dave prancing off to Pirates of Penzance. After about two weeks of hard work, I thought "screw this -- I'm going to St. Pauls and hanging out over there". Now here is Dave, getting married; and here *I* am, the best man in his wedding.Dave, you still know where the "cute chicks" hang out at? I've known Jenny for just about as long as I've known Dave. So I guess you can say I've known Dave and Jenny to be together forever. It's kinda hard to imagine you two apart. You two are each others' support system - partners for life. We're all here together to celebrate that.. And on behalf of everyone here, I want to thank you for having us. Now I wanted to say something cute and whitty like "don't go to sleep mad - stay up and fight." But you two are licensed gun collectors. A personal word of advice - keep an extra pair of handcuffs with you especially in the bedroom! marriages are like a hot bath -- after a while there's not so hot In light of that, if everyone can raise their glass and join me in this toast: commitment should last forever; And life can always be this good. But when times are hard and the road is rough, remember the words you spoke today, and remember the way you feel right now and try to forgive, sometimes thats all we have to give. For to love is to learn, and to learn is to forgive. Best wishes to you both, and may your love be long livedTo Dave and Juanita

Dave and I have been best friends for a long time, so long my parents were starting to wonder if we were getting married.
When Dave first asked me to be his best man there was a part of me that felt sad.
I knew that I was losing my best friend and that our friendship would somehow change.
I finally came to the realization that I wasn't losing my best friend but gaining a very special friend, so to Dave and Vicki, may they have a long and wonderful life together, and my they have all the joy and happiness in the world.

Bless this food which we are about to eat and the sources from which it came. Bless all of those who have gathered here today to celebrate the marriage of
BRIDE to GROOM and those who are with us only in spirit. God, shower your blessings on BRIDE as she is about to enter into the holy sacrament of Matrimony. Give her the patience of Job, the wisdom of Einstein, the gentleness of Florence Nightengale. Give her Julia Child's culinary expertise, the domestic capability of Molly Maid, the power of understanding and the passion of Marilyn Munroe.

But most of all, give her the gift of knowing when to speak up and when just to nod. AMEN!

Have the bride put one hand on the table, then the groom places one of his hands on top of hers, then her other hand, then his other hand on top. Tell the bride to say "I love you" to the groom, then have the groom say "I love you" to the bride. Ladies and Gentleman, we have just witnessed two things here. We just saw the last time that (groom) will get the last word in, and the last time that (Groom) will have the upper hand.

As I begin to ,make this toast to love, laughter and happily ever after I want to read this poem I wrote for Kari and Mike. (This is an excerpt from a toast given in honor of the wedding of Jack and Robin today)
..........An observation that I?d like to make is that I met Jack over 25 years ago as we worked together in the theater?
.........and our friendship continues to this day
.........Incidentally I met (my wife) Merle in the theater too, we?ve been together ever since......
.........Jack and Robin met in the theater, and today have been married
...........As all of us who have ever worked in the theater and toiled in the name of art know
...............that friendships made under these circumstances are timeless and eternal
.....Jack and Robin....You are a couple destined for a world of success not only in life, but in love and happiness
..... and the peace that you feel today will go on forever.

This is the toast our best man said at our wedding in 1994.

Did anyone here of the three rings of marriage?
-The first ring they received a year ago; the engagement ring
-The second ring they received today; the wedding ring
-The third ring they will received for the rest of their life; the suffering!

[Bride], put your left hand on the table. [Groom], put your hand over his.
[Groom], take a good, long look at this; it will be the last time you'll get the upper hand in anything!

Rick Laubenstein

I am honored to stand before you on this magnificent day. We should start off by thanking the parents of the bride and groom, for without them this day could not be possible. I remember Chuck at 15 standing up here as my Best Man and how nervous he was making the toast. I remember just a few months later meeting Shannon for the first time. I remember that pretty and very sweet little High School girl and thinking that the two of them made a nice couple. It doesn't seem like that long ago. Chuck; Shannon is a wonderful woman. Shannon; Thank you for making my brother so happy. The love of your parents has brought you this far. May your love for each other carry you forward.
As mine has, may your marriage age like a fine wine.
May your children bring you as much joy as mine have brought me.
May the sparkle that's in your eyes today light your path for years to come.
May God, friends, and family fill your life.
May you know your children's children.
May your hands be forever clasped in friendship and
your hearts forever joined in love.
"May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
And may you stay forever young"
Please stand, raise your glasses and join me in the
first toast to Chuck and Shannon as husband and wife.
We wish them a lifetime of love and happiness.
"They Love Each Other. Lord you can see that it's true."
Shannon and Chuck, We Love You!

Toast to the Bridesmaids

as we gather to celebrate this day
i have just a few things to say

as the sun goes down and fades
i propose a toast to these bridesmaids

all that glitters is not gold
that is what i've been told

but they could be down at mill lake feeding ducks
and they would still look like a million bucks

and when i look at them in forest green
they are the most beautiful l have ever seen

and now i think it would be grand
if you would join me and stand

a kiss to all of them i blow
as i now prepare to go

please raise your glass filled with wine
to these six ladies who look so fine

To the bridesmaids

I remember one night 21 years and 11 months ago. It was my turn to feed my beautiful baby daughter. As I sat there at 3 in the morning, rocking her back to sleep, I thought of the day she would marry and leave her Mom and me. And this made me cry. I loved my daughter and wanted her to be my little girl forever. But Olivia has grown into a beautiful young woman that I am very proud of. I see lots of me and her Mom in her. And over the years others have noticed my girl including a handsome young man named Michael Rouse. I?ve grown to respect and trust Michael. And now I turn over the 3AM feeding to you Michael. Please stand and join me in this, the first toast to Mike and Olivia as HUSBAND AND WIFE!

May you know true happiness and be lovers and friends forever.
