Honeymoon Ideas: New Orleans

Where can you find the best in nightlife, historical sites, food, and romance for your honeymoon? In New Orleans, of course. Full of old-world charm, delicious eateries, romantic places, and an overall good time, New Orleans is a honeymooner’s paradise.

Full of good food, fun, and a million sites to see, New Orleans is home to several well-known restaurants, hotels, and personalities and is truly in a world of its own.

Staying in New Orleans can be an adventure. On your trip, you may want to spend the night at a historic French Quarter hotel or European style guesthouse. The Omni Royal Orleans or the Bourbon Orleans are ideal locations in the center of the Vieux Carre (that’s French for French Quarter). Maybe you want to sleep at one of the many plantation homes along the Mighty Mississippi, where several offer bed and breakfast accommodations. There are also a number of big name hotels in the Central Business District that offer packages for honeymooners as well as shuttle services.

There are tons of things for you to do while visiting the “Crescent City.” Try a cooking class at the New Orleans School of Cooking, which is both a lesson in Cajun and Creole cooking and culture. Take a walk in Jackson Square, where you can have your fortune told or a portrait drawn by any of the street vendors. Take the St. Charles Avenue streetcar and take a look at the numerous Victorian mansions and million dollar homes in the Garden District.

After working up your appetite touring the city, you may want to try lunch in one of the many mom and pop sandwich shops- try a seafood po boy sandwich- A French bread sandwich chocked full of your choice of fried seafood- or maybe try a muffaletta from Central Grocery, another unique sandwich that combines a blend of olive salad and Italian meats topped with several cheeses. Later, have a snack of beignets and café au lait at the world famous Café Du Monde.

You can also visit many of the city’s attractions, like the Cabildo and Presbytere to see a little of the history of New Orleans, or even take a shopping trip through the French Market, a bazaar of several wares peddled by locals. Spices, fruits, and vegetables that are unique to New Orleans cooking are also available at the Farmer’s Market.

After a full day of sightseeing and activities, you may want to take it easy. Spend a romantic dinner with dancing on one of the nightly paddlewheel boat jazz cruises, or have dinner at one of the many eateries that offer delectable Creole and Cajun cuisine, like Emeril’s, Commander’s Palace, and Galatoire’s. After a relaxing dinner, stay awake for the most well known part of New Orleans-the nightlife.

The nightlife of New Orleans is the main draw for many tourists and honeymooners alike. Bourbon Street, in the heart of the French Quarter, is where jazz clubs, dance clubs, and cocktail bars spill music onto the street. You must go to the world famous Pat O’Brien’s and try a Hurricane, a fruity drink that is known for its inhibiting qualities. You may also want to walk to the Cat’s Meow or Razoo and try out karaoke, or even visit the Bourbon Street Blues Co. to hear some of your favorite blues tunes. A little bit further from Bourbon Street, on St. Peter Street, you can find the New Orleans Jazz Preservation Hall where you can hear the real stuff when it comes to Dixieland Jazz.

All in all, New Orleans is an excellent city for a couple to visit for their honeymoon. Whether searching for relaxation, or a busy trip, honeymooners can revel in both the casual atmosphere of the city as well as enjoy the intoxicating entertainment.
