Wedding Guide To Speech: Sample Toasts (Part I)

Brian MA USA

The beginning letter in each line spells out "Brotherly Love". BROTHERLY LOVE "Brotherly Love" is a term that we did not use Reflecting back, I think we were to macho to muse Only now do we realize the importance of bonding Though mature enough now we can handle the loving Happy to share this brothers love with his bride Each brother knows we have a small piece inside Regretfully, we didn’t share these thoughts as a child Love is not only a word but a vital emotion You may not survive without the feeling of devotion Life is to short not to cherish it’s lessons Our name is a resource we thrive on for purpose Very fortunate are we to be protected from above Eternal fortitude may come from "Brotherly Love" Dad, Thanks for the name! Mom, Thanks for the life!

Tonight, it is my great honor and privilege to make the first toast to Tim and Cindy as husband and wife. Over the past two days, a few people have asked how long have I known Tim. While some people know that Tim and I went to both high school and college together, it is a little known fact that our first meeting occurred while playing CYO soccer in grade school. Tim played for St. Joe's & John's, I playey for their arch rival, Incarnate Word Academy. During the course of one of our games in the eighth grade, Tim took a free kick just outside our goal. I was one of the defenders that stood in the wall. Rather than opting to put the ball on goal, Tim launched a blistering shot into my thigh. As a result, I had the impression of a soccer ball tatooed on my leg for about a week. While that impression was only temporary, the impression that Tim has made on me as a classmate, teammate, roommate, and friend will last forever. Tim has always been there when I needed him. He is honest and trustworthy...most of the time. In short, Tim is a great guy and he has found a great girl in Cindy. Alas, let us toast Tim and Cindy. May they live a long life together filled with love and laughter. May their joys be many and their troubles few. Congratulations.

Congratulations on the termination of your isolation, and may I express my appreciation of your determination to end the desparation and frustration that has caused you so much consternation in giving you the inspiration to make this unification and bring an accumulation to the population. So as I end my toast to this occasion, and wrap up my salutation, I raise my glass to this combination, and bid good luck to the consumation! So cheers, and on with the celebration!

My favorite toast was given by my brother-in-law at our wedding.

This is my husband's oldest brother who was of course his best man. His speech went as so.... It took my brother 19 years of beatings, of arguments and of threats for him to figure out who the best man really is. Everyone roared. Once that died down he did turn serious and follow-up his best man speech with... I wish Amy and Jerry nothing but the best. I hope you two have nothing but good times ahead. Always love each other, always respect each and always be there for each other.

Alot of people asked me a couple of months ago if I was surprised that my brother is getting married. To be honest I answered no most of the time. This is due to the fact that my brother has had a girlfriend since the age of 12. Also my brother did not surprise me when he became engaged because in middle school he took a Sex Education class. And when it came time to take the final he studied so hard for that test. He had my father even come upstairs and help him study for the test. He was up all night, I know this because later that night I had to take a leak and he was still up studying for the test. Needless to say that story helps to reinforce my notion of me being not surprised about him getting married.

Anyway, I would like to say that Kim(the bride) is a very beautiful young woman and
I wish them the best of luck in the world.

From the best man to the groom: Well I took Bob to the drugstore today before the ceremony and as we walked past the condom section he had a few questions. "What are all these condoms for", Bob asked. "Well you see that 3 pack there. That's for when your in High School. One for Friday night and two for Saturday night." I respond. "Oh I see," Bob says, "and what is the 6 pack for?" "Well Bob that's for when your in college. 2 for Friday night. 3 for Saturday night and one for Sunday morning." I say. "Ok but then what the heck is the 12 pack for" Bob asks with a confused look on his face. "Oh that's for when you get married. One for January, One for February, One for March....." Ha ha

Anton(Groom), Wanda(Bride), there are those who will tell you that single life is the only way to go, while it can be said that single life is more glitzy and glamorous, it is only flash not substance, you two begin the journey that proves the rewards of marriage are the most valuable. With that said, may your arguments be as long as my New Years resolutions, more importantly may the most you ever wish for be the least you ever receive, and finally to fate that brought you two together, and to love that may keep you happy forever.

For Jill and Matt Hughes (8-8-98) Rehearsal Dinner Toast.............. Well MATT and JILL the time must be getting close!! Here we are at the rehearsal dinner after hours of practicing toward making tomorrow ³the real day² one of your most memorable days. ...... And I¹m sure it will be. Then comes Sunday and each day of you married life!! Packing, driving, unpacking , decorating your new home -- working together, laughing together and learning more and more about each other. Practicing to make each tense moment laughable, each setback bearable, practicing to make each day perfect. But we all know that practice is not always perfect and practice does not always make perfect. There will be less than perfect times MATT YOU NEED TO SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS ON ....... Mind Reading.................. ..... at no time and under no circumstances will the female let the male know what she wants. The car is empty..........Go fill it up, who cares if the Broncos game is tied..... I need wedding shoes.......the other 40 pair are the wrong shade of white.................. JILL YOU NEED TO.................... Remember.......... .......Men never need to ask for directions they just drive until they find the place.... .....the correction position of the toilet seat is up .....not to mess with the remote controls...it¹s a ³guy² thing MATT - JILL --- just like today as we practiced for tomorrow each day of your glorious married life will be to build a better tomorrow Heres to many years of fun filled practice.

What a great site. I put this toast together mostly with things I found here: I was told I was supposed to give some sort of toast, so…. here’s to me! In all sincerity though, before anyone is toasted (am I too late?), let me first say thank you to Mr. and Mrs. X and to Mr. and Mrs. Y for such a beautiful evening. It’s obvious you’ve put a lot of hard work into this and it’s turned out perfect. Thank you. Now, let me just say that no man is complete until he’s married – now Brian is definitely finished. Actually Brian, you are a very, very lucky man. Emily is a beautiful, intelligent, self-assured woman. And Emily, Brian is… Did I mention that you were a beautiful woman? ...well, at least we didn’t shave his head on you. So with that said, I’m afraid a long sappy poem doesn’t do much for me, so let me just begin with a blessing an end with a toast. A traditional Irish blessing: "May the road rise to meet you May the wind be ever at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face May the rain fall softly upon your fields, And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of his hand." And for the toast, as so eloquently put by a fine American…Groucho Marks: "Here's to the prettiest, Here’s to the wittiest, Here's to the truest of all who are true. Here's to the neatest, Here's to the sweetest, Here's to the two of you." Cheers!

When I was given the honor of being the best man, I was besieged by emotions. I was excited at the prospect that my best friend found someone that he wanted to spend his life with and THAT actually wanted to spend her life with him return. I was also proud that he had come to a point in his life where he felt he had it all together and was ready for such a commitment. Lastly, I was terrified, I had to give a speech. (pause) Well, one thing that school taught me was to be prepared. I sought advice from numerous people and I even found advice on the net. Among the advice I was given was opening lines, jokes, what to say, what not to say, and even SAMPLE speeches. Now all the preparation in the world can’t stop the jitters, so please bear with me as I now give my speech and toast. Congratulations! Insert name of bride and groom. Oops! Congratulations, Ken and Debbie! I feel honored to be here to help celebrate this joyous occasion. I am especially honored to be here since I was the one who brought them together. Needless to say, I have known them both for quite a while. It has indeed been a privilege to know Ken these past 14 years, and I don’t think a truer friend can be found as evident in the numerous times that he has been there for me. Even when he was living in Mammoth, I knew I could count on him (pause) for at least a place to stay when I went skiing. Now as he has grown older, I have seen him hit many milestones. He graduated from Cal State Northridge after a long career as a student which lead to a successful career has a computer guy. He has even survived jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, and he has survived guerilla warfare in Newhall (okay, so it was only paintball). But the best milestone of all was that he found Debbie and that Debbie found him. Now I knew Debbie back when she was a camp counselor and the kids called her “Tweety”, and that right there told me that she could put up with Ken. And since Ken was able to put up with Debbie when Duke beat North Carolina at the buzzer for the NCAA championship, I knew that they would be together for a long time. So without further ado, everyone please raise your glass and join me in a toast to Ken and Debbie. Well being is for those that care, Prosperity is for those that try, and Happiness is for those that love. May your life together be the richest blend of all of the above.

With the help of this web site I recently delivered the following speech: Wedding Speech Margaret & Tim - November 14, 1998 Opening: Tonight it is my great honor and privilege to speak to you as Margaret’s Brother and welcome everyone to Margaret & Tim’s Wedding Reception. For my entire family, I would like to thank everyone for being here on this special day and evening. Many people traveled here from far away and we appreciate you taking the time to join us today and tonight. Our family has grown the past few years and especially this year and I am glad to welcome another male into the fold. Dad, I think we have almost evened up the sides and someday we may outnumber them. Thank You: Today is a very special day for Margaret and Tim and I do want to extend a very special thank you to: Father ________ & St. ______________ for a beautiful ceromony today. The Groom's entire Family. We really enjoyed the Rehearsal Dinner last night. Margaret: I would like to tell you a little bit about my sister Margaret now. Enthusiasm, Leadership and Determination are three words that describe Margaret. Margaret enters everything she does with enthusiasm. This allows her to get the most enjoyment possible out of life. Skiing is a skill Margaret has mastered and her enthusiasm for the sport shows in how she describes a typical day on the slopes. ‘Greatest’, ‘Unbelievable’, ‘The Best’, ‘Totally Awesome’, and ‘Kick Ass’ are common terms Margaret has used. I know because I am usually trying to catch my breath while she says these things. She is always enjoying what she does and her enthusiasm spreads to others quickly. We have always loved this quality in Margaret. Margaret is a real strong leader - at Summer Camp she would have the whole cabin and the counselor following her around after just a few hours. This quality has helped Margaret to meet many people and make friends very quickly. Margaret has always been surrounded by friends - Many who are here tonight. I remember seeing Margaret as we were growing up surrounded by close friends - all the time. Margaret is a very determined person - I remember when Margaret graduated early from Homestead High School and left Mom and Dad’s house to go to Paris. At seventeen years old that showed real determination. This characteristic has helped Margaret to see more than many people her age. Everyone in my family has special stories of things we have done with Margaret and cherish the memories. One thing is clear in our family and my sisters and I all agree - Margaret is a terrific sister. Tim and Margaret: Tim and Margaret, we look forward to having many new stories and memories of special moments with you as you begin your life together. We each have some stories already and we will spare you from sharing these at this time. Tim, we welcome you into our family. Margaret we are all very happy for you and your husband today and very proud of you. Irish Blessing: In closing, our family is Irish on our Mother's side and mostly Irish on our Dad's side and I think it’s appropriate to quote this Irish Blessing to Margaret and Tim: “May the road rise to meet you May the wind be ever at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face May the rain fall softly upon your fields, And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.” Please join me toasting the Bride and Groom - Margaret and Tim.

From Doddie's Bridesmaid Gay Wedding December 5th, 1998 Laguna Beach, CA Love is a flower you must carefully tend so may you always be each other's best friend. Tend your love with warm smiles and laughter and may good fortune fill your "ever after". Be a shelter to each other when life is unkind and to each other's "faults", be a little blind. Enjoy the moments both large and small and be it known that all present will help if you fall. May you always be lovers, but most of all friends and share with each other whatever life sends. But when times are hard and things don't go your way remember the words you spoke here today. If everyone would now raise their glasses and join me in a toast....To Kelley and Doddie: We are all here together today to share in celebrating your love and commitment for each other.
