Dance the Night Away

The leader of the band or master of ceremonies should signal the beginning of the dancing formalities. This usually occurs just before, or immediately after, the main course is served. The dance floor should be located near, or in front of, the bride’s table. The bride and groom lead off the first dance, typically with a song they’ve selected especially for this occasion. This is their first dance as man and wife, not necessarily the first dance of the reception.

If the reception is large, with open seating or standing, you may choose to have the guests start dancing after they go through the receiving line. This gives them something to do while you finish greeting guests and catch your breath. The dance floor can then be cleared, and all eyes focused on the bride and groom as they begin their first dance as husband and wife. You can dance together for the entire length of the song and then open up the dance floor to everyone, or you can choose to have a traditional first dance sequence as listen below.

· The bride’s father cuts in and dances with his daughter while the groom asks the bride’s mother to dance.

· The groom’s father cuts in and dances with the bride, while the bride’s father cuts in on the room to dance with his wife.

· The groom then asks his bother to dance.

· The bride dances with the best man and the groom dances with the maid of honor.

· Attendants and guests join in. The bride and groom should try to make tome for another dance or two together before the evening is over. After all, it is your romantic moment!
