Nail Care

To help nails grow and to keep them beautiful in the days leading up to your wedding day, it is important to take good care of them!

Every week, treat your nails to some good comfort in the form of either a professional or at-home manicure. If working from home, begin by removing any nail polish that you have on your fingernails. Then shape the nail, using a file or emery board. Spend a few minutes soaking your hands in warm, soapy water to remove dirt. If you would like to, apply a clear coat of nail polish. If your nails tend to get brittle, the clear polish should be a nail strengthener, which you can find in most beauty stores. After the clear polish dries you can add 1 – 2 coats of color polish and allow time to dry. Finally, apply moisturizing cream to your hands and nails to add moisture to your cuticles and prevent splitting of the nails.

Although a home manicure may suit your needs, please note that it is recommended to visit a professional manicurist every 4 – 6 weeks. Some general tips throughout the week can help keep your nails strong. Try not to use nail polish remover more than once in a week, as it can dry out your nails. When filing, do not use a seesaw pattern as this may cause nail ridges. Try not to file deep into the nail corner as this will weaken the nail. Do not use your nails for activities such as scraping, picking, pulling, or opening objects. Treat your nails as if they have just been polished.

If you are planning to get your nails done for your wedding day, be sure to find a professional nail technician who you are comfortable with and undergo a trial run a month before the wedding to make sure you like the nail style and that the manicure holds up to your expectations.
