Budget Wedding: Bridesmaid Bouquet Options

You have your dress, and perhaps you splurged a little bit. Your reception hall is to die for even though you went way over your budget. As you look over the quickly piling wedding bills you realize that its time to start budgeting. Where can you cut costs? Well, there are of course the bridesmaid’s bouquets. Your ladies in waiting are honored to be a part of your special day, and after hearing you rant and stress out for so many months they are willing to walk down the aisle standing on their heads if they must. You know that they wouldn’t care if they had bouquets or not, but you care. Here are some inexpensive bridesmaid bouquet options.

1. Less is more. Give your girls a single flower to carry. A bridesmaid with a single flower tied with a piece of satin ribbon looks very elegant. You could even pick the flowers from a friendly garden and buy the ribbon at your local fabric store. Single flowers for the bridesmaids is a trend becoming more and more popular, and besides, your ladies have enough to do, they don’t want to lug around big heavy bouquets all night.

2. Flower petals are not just for little girls. Think of fertility goddesses and medieval priestesses tossing flower petals in the air. Imagine your bridesmaids carrying little fabric bags filled with rose petals. Watching your bridesmaids drizzle flower petals down the aisle would be a vision of grace and beauty. Ask your local florist if they have any slightly wilted roses that they were planning to throw away. Chances are your florist will give them to you free, or charge you an extremely discounted price.

3. Make the bouquets yourself. Go ahead and let your green thumb show (if you have one). Pick flowers from your garden and tie them together with a ribbon. Are you an herb fanatic? Grab a handful of your favorite herbs and make them into a sweet smelling bouquet. Are you having a winter wedding? Then what about pine, holly, or boxwood branches?

4. Who says they have to carry flowers at all? Ask your bridesmaids to carry feathers, or long trailing ribbons. Do you collect art, or porcelain figures, blown glass, antique hats? Your wedding is a personal event, so don’t be afraid to personalize it! If you are a writer you can ask your ladies to carry quill pens. Go ahead and think with your creative side! Give your bridesmaids something to carry that says you.

5. And finally, who made up the rule that says they have to carry anything at all? The bridesmaids themselves are all you really want. You love these girls, and their pretty faces are all the decoration that they really need.

No matter what you give them (or don’t give them) to carry, your bridesmaids are there with you on your special day. In the end, things like bridesmaids’ flowers are really insignificant details. The important thing is that the girls who love you most are showing it by putting on that silly magenta dress (with the huge bow on the butt) and proceeding you down the aisle.
