Many guests to weddings today have a varied diet. How important is it to cater to these guests? Extremely! You may feels as if it's another detail that in the long run doesn't matter, but it does. Some of your guests may be vegetarians. I'm sure you've heard this term before, but did you know there are many different types of vegetarians? Read on to learn about the various types of vegetarians and what to feed them!
The first type of vegetarian is the ovo-lacto vagetarian. This person does not eat meat, fish, poultry, or seafood. The ovo-lacto vegetarian does eat diary and eggs, so there are more options available to you in picking out their menu selection. As with all the vegetarian types listed, salad will always be a safe bet. Other food choices for this type of vegetarian include manicotti, ravoli, cheesy vegetable strate, or vegetable lasagna. Your desert, whether a wedding cake or a full dessert table, shouldn't pose any problems.
The next type of vegetarian is the lacto-vegetarian. This lacto-vegetarian again does not eat meat, fish, poultry, or seafood, and they also do not eat eggs. Since most receptions (unless it's a brunch reception) do not serve eggs as the main course, the same options as the ovo-lacto vegetarians will work. One think to consider is these guests will not be able to partake in any wedding cake or pastries. Check to see if your caterer can provide fresh fruit as an alternative.
Many people are beginning to fall into the next category of vegetarians, the semi-vegetarian. The reason the semi-vegetarian only cuts out red meat from their diet. This guest will be easy to work with as any poultry or fish dish will suffice. They also will not have any difficulties come cake time!
The last type of vegetarian will be the most difficult to cater to. The vegan is the strictest vegetarian, cutting out meat, poultry, fish, seafood, diary, and eggs. Some vegans will go so far as to not eat any animal based foods. Some menu options for your vegan guests include steamed vegetables, wild rice with vegetables, or replace the meat in one of your dishes with tofu. Dessert with the vegan can be handled by serving fruits and nuts.
Knowing your guests and taking care of their needs is just as important as picking the right DJ. Always put yourself in the place of your guests.
