Deciding to Hire a Wedding Coordinator

There are certain advantages and disadvantages to hiring a wedding coordinator, depending on what you and your groom are looking for. Taking a simple look at your current status can help you determine if a coordinator is what you need.

If you have a long engagement, are planning a small wedding, or are planning your event locally, chances are that you may not be interested in a coordinator if you feel that you will enjoy the planning process. If you have a lot of family and friends willing to help coordinate your day, you may find this a satisfactory enough measure to take.

Even so, however, you may still be interested in hiring a professional if you would prefer for someone else to take care of the details of the day. So rather than hiring a coordinator to plan the entire event, you can plan one who would coordinate the events of the wedding day. This is beneficial in ensuring that all family and guests (as well as the bride and groom!) can enjoy the day without worrying about any of the small details, as the wedding coordinator can make sure that all elements of the wedding merge together at the appropriate times.

If you are extremely busy, get stressed easily, or are planning a long distance or destination wedding, many times a wedding coordinator is helpful in locating appropriate local vendors for all of your wedding needs. This is also useful in saving a lot of time searching for the appropriate parties, as well as reducing planning stress. In addition to this service, a coordinator can handle all details of the favors, cake, and other notables if you would prefer not to deal with it. The level of involvement of the coordinator is up to you.

If you do hire a wedding coordinator, make sure that he/she is certified and check his/her references, and be sure to talk before signing anything to make sure that you both are comfortable and get along with each other. Try to find a coordinator that charges a fixed rate, rather than by the hour. Determine what your needs are as well. Would you like the coordinator to simply find all of your vendors, and you will handle the details? Do you want the coordinator to handle all of the legwork, and you will show up the day of the wedding? Your preferences will dictate the price, and obviously the latter option will be most expensive. However, you may find that the price of a wedding coordinator is worth it to maintain your sanity and ensure a perfect wedding day.

Hiring a wedding coordinator is a very personal decision and there are good arguments for and against it. You have to decide what is best for you and go from there!
